Last week Eater SF reported that Dosa’s original Mission location will be shutting down today after 15 years of service.
I actually worked at Dosa for about a week when it first opened. I ended up someplace else of course, but I continued to love the food. Up until then I had never come across South Indian good before.
Dosa’s shuttering is just the latest big restaurant closing announcement in the past few weeks, including Palomino and Miller’s East Coast Deli.
As Caleb Pershan point out on Eater: “Rising minimum wages and mounting SF employer mandates, such as the Healthcare Security Ordinance, have put Dosa’s labor costs at an all-time high.” Unfortunately, that seems to be the case with most of these closings. Greedy landlords are a huge part of it, but so is the fact that San Francisco does not make it easy to run a restaurant.
