I’ve never had a bad night in North Beach. There have been horrible nights in the Mission, the Richmond, SOMA, the Castro, Nob Hill; but never in North Beach. Maybe that’s because you know it’s a night that will end in gluttony and debauchery. Between Tosca and Vesuvio, the two boys I call the Kingpins, there are mounds of treasures to be discovered. The view of the Transamerica from one of the districts high hilltops, Pittsburg hoagies from Girodano Bros., drunken book shopping at City Lights, drunken trips to the Lusty Lady, cannolis galore and the holy grail known as Golden Boy Pizza.

I have made special hangover trips during the day for this pizza, made drunken covert missions for this pizza and shared this pizza with every single person that has come to visit me in the city. The square slices are melted perfectly, the crust has just enough crunch and the toppings all bask in the glow of the low lights of the bar-style setup. At night, you can order from the window, which makes the experience even more awesome. Though I have stopped eating meat, the clam and garlic is so decadent you’ll feel like a million bucks for a mere $3.75.

With a tall boy in one hand and a Golden in the other, the City is yours for the taking.

Monica Miller - The Intern

Monica Miller - The Intern

Ms. Miller was born in San Diego, CA to one lesbian mother and one
righteous, cheap father. Currently, she is enrolled at San Francisco
State University for a B.A. in Journalism and the approximate
completion date is around 2015. She has worked for many papers in the
Bay Area, including the Oakland Tribune and the San Mateo Country
Times and is currently the city editor at one of the most
underappreciated publications in SF, the Golden Gate [X]press. Though
she may find bargains aplenty, it only stems from the necessity of
never landing an actual job and working for hacks [like Stuart.] With
intelligence, style, poise, bite, and honesty, she will rip your heart
out; but not before writing some awesome, poignant shit. This year,
she is looking forward to bigger and better things such as: trying to
get paid for a gig, actually finding a date that isn't a loser or
fucking crazy, not calling her parents when hungover and bringing you
the best of the 7x7 everyday of the week. [By the way, I wasn't
kidding about the date thing; if you love food, booze and shoegaze,
get at me.]
