All of Stan Lee’s Cameos in San Francisco
The tragic death of comic book visionary Stan Lee, for which 47 supervillains took credit, leaves a lasting loss on San Francisco that can only be properly commemorated with a treasury of every San Francisco superhero movie cameo scene in which Stan Lee ever appeared. Excelsior!
Venom (2018)
Venom was a humongous box office hit on its first weekend, but has not endured as a truly memorable addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, it contains Stan Lee’s final San Francisco cameo, which appears to have been shot at Montgomery and Green Streets in North Beach.
Ant Man and The Wasp (2018)
I don’t recall much public demand for an Ant Man sequel, yet the Disney-Industrial Complex gave us one anyway. Stan Lee actually had dozens of funny lines lined up for his two-second cameo in this film, and above you’ll see the one that made it in.
Hulk (2003)
This is Stan Lee’s first ever speaking role in a Hollywood cameo! A film shot in San Francisco, by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon director Ang Lee! But the film was a flop.
Despite appearances, Stan Lee’s scene was probably not filmed anywhere near here. The intro shot is clearly from the East Bay, but quickly cuts to a Stan Lee-Lou Ferrigno cameo that could have been, and probably was, shot on some random Hollywood lot for budgetary reasons.
They will probably CGI Stan Lee into future movies, perhaps sometimes into San Francisco scenes. But the ones above are the only San Francisco scenes that contain the real Comic Book Guy, Stan Lee.
