Waiters & Bartenders are Funding a Movie about a Killer Karen

There’s always room on the cinematic landscape for another horror movie and a new one is on the horizon. We’re So Dead is a restaurant-based horror/comedy movie that is soon to go into production. Full disclosure: this passion project is that of this writer. I’ve written dozens of restaurant related articles for Broke-Ass Stuart as Bitchy Waiter and now I’m producing a movie. Since every grassroots project needs as many eyes on it as possible, I’m pimping myself out here like a standard poodle at the Westminster Dog Show.

The lead role is ASHLEY, a disgruntled server working her last shift on Christmas Eve when a killer “Karen” arrives to settle an old score. Jenna Kanell from Terrifier, Renfield, and The Bye Bye Man has been attached as the lead in the movie. When asked about the project, Kanell said, “We’re So Dead is as gory as it is funny. An ensemble piece that delights in horror comedy as much as it does the service industry world, I have a feeling this will be as fun to be a part of as it will be to watch.” Since I am a desperately needy bitch who craves attention, I too will be in the movie. I’ll be playing a sardonic, lazy, bartender who complains about his job and thinks he’s above it all. It’ll be a real stretch.

Ken MacLaughlin (ShiftDrinks Comedy), the writer-director, said, “As a horror fan and 20-year restaurant veteran, I wanted servers and bartenders to have a scary movie of our own – one that speaks to our fears, and gets our sense of humor.”

Me getting me closeup.

We’re So Dead is being financed by restaurant servers and horror fans, allowing them to have a financial stake in the film. A successful WeFunder campaign was launched in the spring of 2023 and will close January 20, 2024 and it’s not too late to be a part of it. By using WeFunder, a Reg CF crowdfunding campaign that allows for investments from both accredited and unaccredited investors, servers and horror fans now have a stake in the film. Yes, if the move makes money, the investors makes money too! It’s sorta like tip-pooling, but without the customers. If anyone cares to learn more about it, you can go to the WeFunder page for more information and to see clips from the trailer.

It’s 2024 and so many of us have drawn up our list of goals and aspirations for the new year. Mine is to get this film made and hundreds of servers have joined in to help make it happen. It’s going to a be a great movie, full of comedy, blood, and gore with just a touch of attitude and a sprinkling of customer service revenge. As always, tip your servers. Or else.
