FREE Poetry Reading and Benefit for Haiti

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Shortly after the tragic earthquake in Haiti this January, fund raisers and relief organizations were popping up left and right to lend a hand to the victims. While the hype seems to have tapered off, there is still much to be done to rebuild and aid those affected by the quake. Organizations like Friends of the San Francisco Public Library are still holding events to raise money, and one such event is this Sunday! YEAH!!! If you like helping people, or need a karma boost because you’ve been a real jerk lately (I’m looking at you Kirsten Dunst) and get a kick out of poetry, then this is the event for you!

Former San Francisco Poet Laureates Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jack Hirschman and Janice Mirikitani, as well as a plethora of Bay Area poets will be gracing your ears with verbal treasures from 1:30 to 4:00 at Glide Memorial Church in Downtown San Francisco. Admission is FREE, but the whole purpose of the event is to help others while getting in touch with your inner literary, so scrounge up whatever you can spare to donate to Doctors Without Borders in Haiti. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be inspired to become a poet/volunteer/stop being such a jerk!

Alison Lambert - Half Price Headliner

Ali was born and raised in the Wholesome/Creepy capital of the world, Salt Lake City, UT. Once she was old enough to blow that pop stand she escaped to the place that was the anti-SLC: The Peoples Gay-public of Drugifornia aka San Francisco (holla 30 Rock!). You can now find her throughout this glorious city slurping Pho and scheming with her best friend Pinky doing what they do every night; try and take over the world.
