Free Urban Cycling Workshop: For Self-Identified Women Only

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Biking in San Francisco can be a daunting endeavor. Trying to walk in the city without being run over is hard enough, but add a couple of wheels and some gear thingies and you’ve got yourself a potential death trap. Luckily, cycling in the city is a lot easier than it looks and completely frees you from the ridiculously slow and annoying Muni bus rides. Someone once told me that the average speed of Muni buses is seven, I repeat, SEVEN miles per hour. That shit is slow, and no matter how amateur of a rider you are, I guarantee you will be going faster than that.

I attended one of San Francisco Bike Coalition’s Urban Cycling Workshops when I first started biking and it made me feel infinitely better about navigating the city and sharing the roads with motorists and stupid pedestrians. This Sunday, in the spirit of International Women’s Month and empowering female riders, SFBC is offering a FREE course for self-identified women only. The class will be taught by a female instructor and will be held at the Polk St. Good Vibrations. Sexy!!

Students must be 18 years of age or older to get in, so bring your ID to prove it. The class is four hours long, but it goes quickly and they’ll learn you good on the basics of riding. No bike is needed to attend, so even if you’re just interested in biking, show up and maybe you’ll be convinced. So run, bike, drive or swim over to Good Vibrations this Sunday and you’ll be on your way to becoming a sweet/broke ass biker babe! And for fuck’s sake wear a helmet!!!

Ali was born and raised in the Wholesome/Creepy capital of the world, Salt Lake City, UT. Once she was old enough to blow that pop stand she escaped to the place that was the anti-SLC: The Peoples Gay-public of Drugifornia aka San Francisco (holla 30 Rock!). You can now find her throughout this glorious city slurping Pho and scheming with her best friend Pinky doing what they do every night; try and take over the world.
