Bay to Breakers Liquor Store Map 2018

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Behold the Tenth Anniversary Edition of the Bay to Breakers Liquor Store Map, the now-legendary smartphone map that shows the nearest booze and smoke shops even when you’re in the Golden Gate Park backwoods of the Bay to Breakers race. There are no liquor stores at all on the second half of the race course, and that’s when people get desperate for refills and more cigarettes. Just pull this baby up on your smartphone and your ever-disappearing beer, wine, liquor, and sundries can be restocked in a jiffy.

The 2018 map is above, with little beer icons indicating the liquor store locations along the Bay to Breakers course. You can click here for fullscreen or visit the bit.ly link to pull it up on your smartphone as a dynamic Google Map that shows you as a little blue dot that that moves toward your destination with GPS-precision accuracy.

The first 2008 edition of this map on SFist was blamed by Matier & Ross in the Chronicle for an “out of control” Bay to Breakers that year, which was all the encouragement I needed to make a new version of this map every year since. With SFist now deceased, the Bay to Breakers Liquor Store Map has a new permanent home at BrokeAssStuart.com.

There are ten liquor stores right on the first three miles of the race course, but Bi-Rite Divisadero no longer serves during Bay to Breakers. They claim it’s because of “restricted morning sidewalk access,” a laughable excuse considering the sidewalks will even not be closed. The closure may have more to do with that time in 2013 when they replaced all the dairy with beer and tallboys for Bay to Breakers Sunday and mayhem ensued.

Liquor stores are difficult as hell to locate once you are in Golden Gate Park, but your easiest turn-offs are the llttle paths to Fulton Street right before the DeYoung Museum, Crossover Drive, 30th Avenue, Spreckels Lake. Any further than that, you really should just finish the race and then go to the Safeway on La Playa.

Please do make a point of using the provided port-a-potties, throwing your trash in appropriate bins, and maybe even splurge on registering for a race bib.  Because you don’t want Stanley Roberts to broadcast footage of you peeing Sunday night on KRON 4 news.
