The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Balanced Breakfast curates music industry meetups for professionals in San Francisco plus 20+ cities including Los Angeles, Nashville, Denver, Austin, Portland, Seattle, and more. In San Francisco, BB meets for breakfast every first Thursday at Virgin Hotel in SOMA. Attendees talk about actions that can be employed to help the Bay Area music scene become a place where musicians & industry professionals can make money doing what they love (Music).

“Balanced Breakfast started as coffee with industry professionals but has grown to include a yearly music summit. It has been a great way for attendees to learn about the industry, but even more important is the role it has played in introducing people to their new best friends.” – Stefan Aronsen BB Co-Founder

BB started at a cafe in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco in 2013. The in-person meetings were very popular and the group grew quickly, expanding to Oakland and San Jose in 2014. What became instantly clear was that there is a major hunger in the music industry for the opportunity to connect with other professionals in real life. The summit is a response to this and has been designed to be a resource to help increase each attendee’s ability to meet other professionals and thus foster a healthy local music community. BB creates a way for you to connect with industry professionals more intimately than any social media platform.

The BB Music Summit on February 22nd features three panels each hour, attendees can choose between tracks for musicians, business, and general. The climax of the day will be the summit’s keynote panel, featuring Stuart Schuffman (Broke-Ass Stuart), Aaron Axelsen (Alt105.3), and Stefan Aronsen (Balanced Breakfast). They will be discussing the importance of tastemakers in helping people filter entertainment options. Perhaps you haven’t considered what role bloggers, authors, DJs, and teachers play in your discovery process. In the Bay Area, we have countless places to eat, social opportunities every night, an endless supply of local music via clubs, radio, and the internet. Thus the increased responsibility for people in positions of influence to help guide the needle. Each of the panelists has chosen their own unique platform to help guide their audience. You can hear Aaron every Sunday on Soundcheck, Stuart has his blog, books and releases his voter’s guide, and Stefan has events like breakfast, Music Summit, and the yearly BB FEST.

I am the co-founder of Balanced Breakfast, a meetup for music industry professionals. No, I do not sing or play any instruments ... but I have tried! My passion for music began at 7 when my parents bought me a drum set. I was BAD at drums. So I moved on, joined the school band, and played clarinet. I was BAD at the clarinet. Trying and failing at instruments continued through elementary school and into college. It turns out that while I could recognize good music; I lacked the skill to make it.

Now I'm broke, beautiful, and writing about music for Stuart...
