Best Bay Area Livestreams for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

So much has happened over the last eight months in the racial justice movement that this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day cannot be allowed to pass without recognition. Several churches and activist organizations are putting on events that you can watch from home, or attend but in safe and properly socially distanced fashion.

All of these events are online, some have a socially distant in-person component. All of these events take place today, Monday, January 18, 2021.

Museum Of The African Diaspora’s CELEBRATION: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service

The Museum Of The African Diaspora  has a lineup of speakers featuring Glide’s Reverend Marvin K. White, an exploration of vintage Civil Right Era photographs, and a digital altar to Dr. King. The full schedule is here.

7th Annual Day of Action to Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy – Car Caravan Edition

The Anti Police-Terror Project’s annual Oakland march will instead this year be a car caravan, that will start “at the Port of Oakland, near Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, and end in East Oakland with a short program. You can listen live at Protest Sound, watch on Facebook Live, or attend the watch party on Zoom.

24th Annual MLK Virtual Celebration: ‘Let us Be Dissatisfied: Using Our Power to Bend the Arc

Barbarba Lee speaks for me, and all of us, as Rep. Barbara Lee joins Stanford professor and King Institute director Clayborne Carson, filmmaker Shakti Butler and others as featured speakers at The Piedmont Anti-Racism and Diversity Committee’s 24th Annual 2021 Piedmont MLK Celebration.

Stanford University’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute has an all-day, on-demand lineup of documentaries Where Do We Go From Here?, with films covering a range of topics “from the history of the civil rights and anti-apartheid movements to James Baldwin and Martin Luther King’s global visions.”

Ebenezer Baptist Church’s MLK Day Celebration

Dr. King’s own church just sent Reverend Raphael Warnock to the Senate, and FOX5 Atlanta is streaming their MLK Day service live and will have it on demand afterward. Be aware that it does skew kinda Christian.
