7 Reasons to Kick-Off Your Summer with Demo Nights

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Summer is here, the heat is on and presumably we’re all looking for just the right spectacle to put us into that sweet summer mood.  So what’s the best way to start your summer madness out on the right foot?

Thursday through Saturday, you can find out at Demo Nights, a three night event featuring some of the Bay’s dopest poets, battle rappers, MC Olympics champions, entrepreneurs, and artists all together in the heart of San Francisco’s SOMA district.

Here are the top 7 reasons you won’t want to miss out on Demo Nights:

1) You love improbable combinations of content.

What if Broadway’s Hamilton and HBO’s Silicon Valley got together and procreated?  We think it could very well resemble Zipsloth the Musical, which will be performed in a special preview on all three nights.

2) You are annoyed by all the tech in the Bay, and love laughing at jokes made at the startup world’s expense.

In addition to Zipsloth the Musical, the event will feature a handful of hilarious, no punches pulled rap battles, with a twist. Some of the Bay Area’s most talented battle rappers will take each other on in a hard-hitting series of Startup Rap Battles.

A still from Zipsloth the Musical…obviously

3) You work in tech, and love jokes being made at your co-workers and company’s expense.

See reason #2 above.  Also, this could end up being a good networking opportunity.

4) You are a budding MC, attention lover, karaoke type of personality that can’t wait to grab the mic and step on stage.

Demo Nights will feature a freestyle cypher backed by a live band, and YOU will have the opportunity to step up and let your sweet poetic stylings flow.

5) You love Bay Area hip hop legends.

Demo Nights will feature performances from some incredible special guests including Mac Mall, Tajai & DJ Toure from Hieroglyphics, and Lateef the Truthspeaker.

(Above is the music video for The Arrival, one of the songs from Zipsloth the Musical)

6) You hate regret.

Don’t we all. Consider this fair warning, and do something about it so you don’t have to feel it this time around.

7) You love a nice discount.

As Broke-Ass Stuart says, you are young, broke and beautiful.  That’s why we are excited to extend a special discount to Broke-Ass Stuart readers just like you. We can’t discount every show, so we are discounting the most fun day of the year (Friday!) for the most fun people we can think of – YOU!

So hop to it – use promo code BROKEASS and get 25% off your ticket here.

The best start ever to summer awaits – after that, you may be on your own.

Demo Nights is taking place Thurs-Sat 6/28-6/30 at the Folsom St. Foundry in SF’s SOMA district.  Doors open at 7pm, show starts promptly at 8pm. For more information check out rhymecombinator.com or the facebook event page here.

Demo Nights is produced by Rhyme Combinator. The team includes a broad set of misfit  technologists, artists, and musicians, who share a passion for creating media that promotes positive entrepreneurial behavior and encourages cross-community collaboration.
