The summer season is just getting started in the Bay Area, so get out of your house and check out these openings, closings, and other artsy events in July.  The Renegade Craft Fair and Stern Grove Festival (with Mitski, thanks Noisepop!) are also returning later this mont, not to mention SF Pride 2019!

 2019 San Francisco Pride, Generations of Resistance! Will hold everything from rallies to dance parties in Civic Center, as well as a parade down market street.  This year the Broke-Ass Stuart team worked with Pride sponsor T-Mobile to help decorate their booth with Pride-themed artwork from a SF artists.  So swing by the T-mobile booth at the Civic Center and checkout SF artist Crystal Vielula‘s awesome mural while you’re down there : ).

MUSEUM OF THE MOON – OPENING WEEK
Museum of the Moon opens at the Exploratorium July 1–31, 2019.  Wonder at the majesty of the 16-foot photorealistic spherical sculpture of the moon that shows every cliff and crater. Created exclusively for the Exploratorium by UK artist Luke Jerram.

FUNDRAISE FOR THE FUTURE OF AGGREGATE SPACE

IN A FLASH
In a Flash is an exhibition of works by San Francisco Art Institute alumni whose practice encompasses the art or history of tattooing and tattoo aesthetics. This exhibition aims to showcase the range of imagery that comes from the realm of tattoo art and its variety of applications.

ED HARDY: DEEPER THAN SKIN PUBLIC OPENING
Celebrate the public opening of “Ed Hardy: Deeper than Skin,” the first museum retrospective of the renowned tattoo artist, and local legend, Ed Hardy.  The opening night celebration in collaboration with Juxtapoz Magazine features a DJ set by Chances with Wolves, and a specialty cocktail featuring Sailor Jerry Rum concocted by San Francisco’s own Trick Dog Bar, and the opportunity to share your own tattoo testimonials.

LIVE TATTOOING AT THE ASIAN ART MUSEUM
To celebrate the Asian Art Museum’s current exhibition on Tattoos in Japanese Prints, there will be guest tattoo artists showing off their skills on live models using electric and hand-engraving techniques.  The artists will be tattooing original designs inspired by the works in the exhibition.

COLORISM: THE SPECTRUM OF INTERNALIZED BIAS
Colorism: The Spectrum of Internalized Bias analyzes the phenomenon of appearance-based discrimination among members of the same identity group. Interrogating this topic through contemporary media including photography, installation, animation, video and performance art, this ambitious exhibition will include a wide range of programming including the opening reception, panel discussion, a film screening, as well as closing reception and catalog release.

SEE MITSKI AT STERN GROVE FESTIVAL
Noise Pop co-presents the next generation of indie-rockers takes the stage when acclaimed singer-songwriter Mitski performs at Stern Grove Festival. Opening the show is the “twang-haze” stylings of Oakland-based artist Madeline Kenney.  The concert is free and open to the public. Concert meadow seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
