Wow, it’s hard to remember when there was a February this busy with art in the Bay– it seems that there are interesting openings, workshops, and parties happening almost every night this month. This month, take some time to explore places that might take a little longer to get to because there are great events happening in both Richmond and Alameda.
MAKERSPACE OPENING ‘N CRAFTS
The Port Workspaces is inviting all creators, artisans, prototypers, and designers to celebrate the grand opening of its new Makerspace in downtown Oakland. There will be workshops throughout the night for pillow-making, wearable tech, tarot readings, and other creative projects.

Artists Anna Fidler and Cathy Lu are opening a new show at Johansson Projects that reimage old myths through their colorful, feminine worlds. Inspired by the ancient Chinese myth of the Immortal Peach Garden and an imagined group of women who live amongst the trees, their work seem straight out of a dream.

Ashara Ekundayo Gallery kicks off the year with a solo show from artist Sam Vernon, who makes Xeror drawings, collages, and objects using a process of “ghosting.” By copying and multipying each original image, the end result of Vernon’s printmaking process questions how images are transformed when they are reproduced.
