Beloved Underground Art Space, The Secret Alley, Needs Your Help!
I have spent many glorious nights and days at The Secret Alley. From Berlin style ping pong parties to wild Halloween events to teaming up with Sonny Phono for the the Weird & Wonderful Podcast at BFF.FM (which is headquartered at The Secret Alley), I have a long history with this incredible art space. And thousands of others folks do too.
For the past 15 years or so The Secret Alley has been an artist workshop, an underground event space, an arcade, an internet radio station, a studio to shoot photos and films, and so much more. Chances are you’ve ended up there for some strange and fun event.
As you can imagine the pandemic has hit them pretty hard, so they’ve started a Patreon to help keep them afloat. As part of this they’ve been having a series of livestreams showcasing a variety of local bands like Mister Baby, Bolero!, members of Caravan 222, and The GnarleyMen. The final night of music is tonight at 8pm! You can tune in right here.
“October has always been a pretty big celebration for The Secret Alley and a time to create something for people to enjoy,” says co-founder Noel Von Joo. “This year we’re asking for support, but we still want to create something for the community while supporting local artists. It’s been a crazy battle trying to plan a contactless, five-night live stream series during a pandemic and on a shoestring budget — but we shoot for the moon every year, and a pandemic isn’t going to stop us this time.”
