You’re invited to attend the 100th anniversary celebration of Mt. Davidson Cross! We are honored that many public officials, religious leaders and esteemed guests will be attending this historic, community-wide San Francisco event.

The highlight of the ceremony will be the unearthing of a time capsule that was buried by San Francisco Boy Scout Troop #88 exactly a century ago. Following the unearthing, a new time capsule will be placed in the same spot, hopefully to be discovered 100 years from now!

Thumpasaurus

In their last gift to the consciousness of the cosmic manifestation of the Earth and its beings, the Thumpasaurus wrote down the secrets of the Thump in a manuscript of real troof and buried it in a sacredly SECRET location (the appalachian mountains) in hopes that the Thump would survive and benefit future generations with happiness, love and thump. As buildings turned to sand, and memories to dust, so too did the ancient memory of the Thumpasaurus and with them disappeared the philosophy of Thump.

 

Big Joanie

Big Joanie are a London-based Black feminist punk band who combine the fury of nineties riot grrrl with synth-heavy post punk. Ahead of their second album, set to come out on Daydream Library in the UK and Kill Rock Stars in the US, Big Joanie are ready to bring their unique brand of feminist punk to the entire world.

Alicia Eggert’s This Present Moment Neon Sculpture Exhibit

The Long Now Foundation presents interdisciplinary artist Alicia Eggert‘s neon sculpture This Present Moment in an exhibit in partnership with Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (FMCAC). The exhibit features large lenticular prints of Eggert’s work (on display at The Interval in Building A), behind-the-scenes videos of the sign’s journey to the ancient bristlecone pines on Long Now’s property in Nevada, and the artwork itself, sculpted in steel and neon.

Alicia Eggert’s art creates a framework to contemplate our human experience within the seemingly infinite universe. Her sculptures illuminate the passage of time, their physicality embodying the ephemeral through thought-provoking quotes rendered in neon, steel, and time itself.

 

Kalos – Innovative Celtic Roots Music

Kalos features Ryan McKasson (fiddle, viola, vocals), Eric McDonald (guitar, mandolin, lead vocals), and Jeremiah McLane (accordion, piano, vocals). All three are long-standing touring artists who, as part of their development, learned from masters of traditional music (Ryan with Alasdair Fraser, Eric with John McGann, Jeremiah with Jimmy Keane). Their individual artistry springs from these strong traditional roots. As a trio, Kalos moves beyond this foundation, creating music that is compelling enough to transcend boundaries and appeal to music lovers of all stripes.

Schlomer Haus Gallery is pleased to debut Hunter Harvey’s Go West, a new solo exhibition that invites viewers on a journey of discovery and queer love through the American West.

The title of this exhibition pays homage to the Village People’s iconic 1979 queer anthem – a song that spreads a message of hope, liberation, and the power of community. As an artist who recently moved westward to California, Hunter asks himself what kind of world he wants to live in, and what kind of world can he build through painting.

Ravi Shankar – Chants of India

Pioneering Indian musician Ravi Shankar’s musical reach and instrumental mastery has expanded countless ears and minds around the world. Essentially introducing classical Indian music to western audiences, he had a profound influence upon the counterculture movement of the 1960’s, and especially the Beatles. Chants of India was released in 1997 and was produced by his old friend, and former Beatle, George Harrison. This incredibly beautiful album consists of Vedic and other Hindu sacred prayers. Shankar considered Chants of India to be among the best works in his vast 60-year career. Recorded and produced with impeccable respect, attention to detail, and clarity, these ancient sounds resonate as they have for thousands of years.
