Pro-Trans Protest Being Organized by 12 and 16 Year Old Activists
Over the past few years, transgender people – especially transgender youth – have been the target of escalating war from The GOP. As Robert Reich so astutely points out, “Republican leaders have mastered the art of manufacturing crises to divert the public’s attention from the real crisis of our era — the siphoning off of income, wealth, and power by a small group at the top.” And one of the main ways they’ve done this is by whipping up their base into a frenzy over trans people. A collection of Bay Area kids aren’t having that shit and are fighting back with a protest.

Coming up on Sunday, June 11th is a pro-Trans march in San Francisco called Pride is a Protest. A social worker friend of mine knows the organizers and reached out to BAS with the following info:
This protest is being organized by trans/queer youth, with the main organizers being a 12 and 16 year old…They’re seriously amazing. The protest is starting at Market x 2nd at 12 pm, then we will be marching to Civic Center to hold a rally where the kids will be voicing how all the anti-trans legislation is impacting them and what adults can do to help out.
The website for the march has a great list of places you can donate to help the struggle of transgender people. It also has resources to help you write letters in support of the Transgender community.
The website gives a longer explanation as to the importance of their action:
Our mission through protest is to make our voices heard and make lasting changes to the world we live in. The amount of anti-trans legislation being passed all across our country every single week can be disheartening, frightening, and infuriating. Protesting allows an outlet for those emotions with the feeling of making real, lasting change. There are more ways than one to protest, including marching, speaking up against different bills, writing letters to politicians, and signing petitions. It’s important that we engage in all of these different forms of protest, not just one. So if you want to make change before and after the protest, this website gives you ways to do so.
So join in solidarity with the trans community and support them in their fight for equality.
