‘The Upside’ Mission Art Collective Offers Exhibit Space to Artists

Call for SF Artists: Exhibit Your Work at The Upside!

The Upside is an artist collective that provides space for artists to work and exhibit in the Mission.  Many local artists over the years have laser-cut, welded, painted, sawed, electrified, sculpted, and even papier-mâchéd pieces of art there.  (Current artist tenants are Geary and Hyde Design, Designs From Chaos, Soma Hol, Looking Up Arts, & Phil Spitler.)

The Upside just launched a brand new Artist Spotlight program, which is designed to assist new artists in connecting with an audience and nurturing those relationships moving forward.  Every month in 2024 The Upside will lend its space to a different artist to exhibit their work, and throw a party/exhibit/reception on a day of their choosing.

Not only do you get the physical space, but you get the Upside’s veteran guidance and their online platforms too.  The Upside’s Jocelyn Parrish told BAS.com, “We work with the artists and guide them through a showing in our space. This will include extensive marketing across all platforms.”

This local shop has an experienced team to help each artist tell their story to a broader audience. Jocelyn continued, “Support will be made available every step of the way.”

This is a nice opportunity for Bay Area artists together for collaborations and to share resources, it also gives artists a chance to in a comfortable spot to learn about exhibiting and selling their art, skills so often ignored by good artists.

Unlike galleries or showcase spaces Upside will not take a commission from the artist’s art sales, rather a flat fee based on a sliding scale (no more than $150) is collected from each exhibitor and used directly for program costs.

As it says on the Upside site, the “objective with this program is to bring artists together with reassuring collaborators and resources to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in putting a show together and hosting the exhibition.”

They are taking applicants now, there is no fee to apply!
