Women’s Pro Soccer is Back in the Bay!

Some of my fondest memories growing up was attending CyberRays games with my Uncle. Getting to watch legends like Brandi Chastain and Mia Hamm play in person. I miss those days, but I am excited because professional women’s soccer is BACK in San Jose with the inaugural season of Bay FC. Their first home game is this week and I look forward to a season of getting to see this generation’s legends play (that Gotham FC is stacked!). Soccer and all, here’s what I’m most excited about for the week of 3/26…

Robin Tran was named one of Just For Laugh’s New Faces of 2021. Based in Orange County, Robin started her life presenting as a male named Robert Tran. She was also a writer on Historical Roasts on Netflix.

Two chances to see Sleater-Kinney in SF this weekend! Saturday at The Warfield and Sunday at The Regency Ballroom. Sleater-Kinney’s musical style was rooted in Olympia, Washington’s punk and independent rock scenes of the early- to mid-1990s, forming around the last years of the riot grrrl movement. The duo of Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein came from veteran acts from the beginning of the movement.

Alynda Segarra, Hurray for the Riff Raff’s founder, has been something of a modern Huck Finn, an itinerant traveler whose adventures prompt art that reminds us there are always other ways to live. Their voyages have shaped an oral folklore of sorts, with the teenage vagabonding or subsequent trainhopping becoming what some may hear about Hurray for the Riff Raff before hearing the music itself.
