London Breed Might Be Cooked As Lurie Surges

The San Francisco mayoral race has become highly competitive, with London Breed facing significant challenges in her bid for reelection. Despite some improvements in her approval ratings earlier this year, the latest poll shows a decline, with only 35% of likely voters approving of her performance. This presents an opportunity for Daniel Lurie, who has positioned himself as the strongest alternative to Breed.

Lurie has emphasized the need for change in City Hall and has done well in the ranked-choice voting system, which could be crucial to his success. Breed, meanwhile, faces the challenge of securing enough second- and third-choice votes to maintain her position. Her efforts to present herself as a champion for San Francisco, while her opponents criticize her tenure, are central to her campaign strategy.

Other candidates, such as Mark Farrell and Ahsha Safaí, have formed alliances to strengthen their ranked-choice voting chances. Breed, however, has not entered into any formal alliances, although she has sought endorsements from prominent progressives. With the election just two weeks away, the outcome could hinge on how effectively the candidates appeal to a broad coalition of voters.

The biggest challenge to London’s candidacy has been her shifting platform over the years. London Breed campaigned on defunding the police, yet increased their budget and helped oust progressive District Attorney Chesa Boudin and put Brooke Jenkins in his place. When running for mayor, London presented herself as an advocate for the downtrodden, but has since endorsed making a clean drug test a prerequisite for financial assistance, which would put her to the right of prominent Republicans such as Ron DeSantis.

Voters have to ask themselves a question when voting for London Breed, and that question is… who the fuck is London Breed? Is she a San Francisco progressive or a conservative in disguise?
