Cheap Date Night: “From Here to Eternity” at The Paramount Theatre in Oakland
A couple weeks ago I had an amazing experience — I got to go to a Sufjan Stevens show at The Paramount Theatre in Oakland. While I wish he would have played, say, at the Fox due to his new album’s funky, dance-y nature and the Fox’s spacious general admission area, I’m glad I had the chance to see The Paramount. If you’ve never been there, it’s this awesome, historic theatre built in 1931. I love newfangled venues like the Fox, but there’s no denying the charm of an old, multi-level theatre like The Paramount.
This is why on Friday night for only $5, you should head down to Oakland by car or BART and watch the 1953 classic “From Here to Eternity” starring Deborah Kerr, Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift (and Frank Sinatra! Sigh). The theatre is big enough that if you wanted to go to this by yourself, you’d be pretty inconspicuous, but also the perfect place for a first date or a romantic night out with your long-time other (jerk). Take a little trip out of the city for some WWII drama and black-and-white rolling-around-in-the-waves making out!
“From Here to Eternity” at Paramount Theatre Friday, November 12, 8pm 2025 Broadway (btwn 20th and 21st St.) Oakland
