Barcey's

It’s easy to just think of New York as a series of subway stops. After all, you go underground, everything’s the same, then you’re somewhere else- no real way to connect the larger world. However, despite popular belief, Brooklyn and Queens share a lot of unceremonious borderland. No rivers, waters, or turf wars, just a street (like Cypress Ave) where one side is Kings and one side is Queens. On the last street in Bushwick before Ridgewood sits a lovely little coffee shop by the name of Barcey‘s, and you should consider it your last chance saloon of sorts.

Bushwick is a pretty big blob of a neighborhood, running from the post-industrial lofts of the Morgan stop to the family-friendly Mexican/Ecuadorian niche it has further down the L. While a fancy coffee shop might not stand out off the Bedford stop, when you’re off the Dekalb one and you’re surrounded by dope tacos and 99 cent stores this one is unique. As it’s right behind a hospital you get a great confluence of tatted artists and haggard doctors. The white coats to white Converse spectrum. Plus, it’s got a pretty damn decent brunch on the weekends with hyper cordial staff, so your hungover corpse will be well tended to.
