Everybody’s into Mash-Ups these days, right? Most commonly, we are familiar with Mash-Ups in music. The DJ Girl Talk is famous for this style. These are  songs or compositions created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another. These songs can be called a number of different names: mashups, bootlegs, blends, boots, smashups, bastard pop, cutups or even crossovers.

Anyways, I like to keep it simple and use the hyphenated spelling version Mash-Up: since it gives me the actual visualization of putting two things together. My latest obsession is Mash-Up Halloween costumes. My friend Shaun got me into this idea. He is from Chicago and said that the whole Mash-Up music scene was really big out there years ago, and it somehow evolved to huge Halloween parties where everybody dressed as a Mash-Up of two costumes in one and DJs played Mash-Up songs all night.

That pretty much sounds like the best Halloween party ever.

So, for any of you still looking for costume ideas – get your creative juices flowing and start mixing and matching. Here are a few examples to get you started:

This one would make the Beatles proud, for sure! And Lucille Ball might even get a chuckle out of I Love Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Obviously, eating some acid would really put her in character!

Party time, excellent! Lil’ Wayne’s World and Lady GaGarth take the cake on this one!

Whoaaaaaa! That’s a double rainbow all the way. Oh my Goooood! This girl takes a cute spin on the Bear, the guy who made the Double Rainbow video here with Double Rainbow Brite. Pretty clever, but she could have been a bit more elaborate and have two huge rainbows over her head. However, she gets points for creativity.

This is a pretty cute. Hall & Oats. Oates might not even care that they forgot the “e” in his name. I think they should walk around town with a boom box that plays, “Your Kiss is on my List” all night, and see how many chicks they can pull.

These chicks are really taking that whole, “be whatever you want – just be sexy,” motto for Halloween to the head. They call themselves the Sesame Street Gang Bang! Their innocence is sure to be lost be the end of the night, and I can bet you $100 they all do the “walk of shame” home in the morning with half of their costumes missing…
