Excellent New Years Resolutions
With the arrival of the New Year I find my thoughts turning contemplative. These coldest and darkest months of self-reflection often mark a critical juncture in my own personal growth. Over the years I have been fond of creating New Years Resolutions that form a benchmark, helping me to grow and develop in ways I might not have otherwise. In 2010 I thought I would share a few of this year’s resolutions and what they mean to me.
1. Save money.
Ah, it is the tried and true staple of resolutions. Just think, if no one put this resolution on their list, this website would cease to exist!
2. Be more like the Obamas. I mean this in the broad sense. My aspirations include everything from emulating their adoring, love-filled-gazes to winning a Nobel Peace Prize.
3. Order wine with lunch.
I don’t know if the Obamas do this but to me it just seems more, I don’t know, civilized?
4. Eat less.
Similar to the ever popular '˜lose weight’, this resolution, if followed, should have the same effect without the messy guesswork. One thing is for sure; it is never necessary to eat 25 meringues in one sitting'even if they do remind me of Lucky Charms’ marshmallows.
You know, in the course of writing these, I am moved to break tradition and write a few resolutions for other folks. I know I am not in the minority when I say; I do not have confidence that the people to whom I am close are capable of truly meaningful resolutions. Since it is so much easier to see what needs changing from the outside, I am going to take this opportunity to give resolutions for those who need them most.
For my Mother: Take down the Christmas decorations.
I am telling you, Mom, the Christmas tree means more when you don’t have it up all year.
For my sister: Stop picking up men at the Renaissance Faire.
No one should ever bring a joust to dinner.
For the L train: Come more often.
Self-explanatory.
On second thought, add that one to my resolutions as well!
For my cat: Eat more.
You are looking skinny, girl!
For my boss: Buy a dictionary.
The plural of '˜you’ is not '˜youse’.
And finally'
For my lover: See the above resolution for L train.
Happy New Year, indeed!
