Cubana Social: Fancy Place for Your Lack of Cash
My deepest apologies to potatoes, but I think I’ve fallen in love with another fry. Sweet potato fries never charmed me, but yucca fries are quite possibly the greatest (savory) fried food I’ve ever eaten. Specifically, the yucca fries with tomatillo sauce from Cubana Social. The fries speak for themselves, but the candlelit tables definetly helped bring my infatuation with them to the next level.
Cubana social is one of the most relaxing fancy-feeling restaurants around. The high-ceiling building is dimly lit to just the right amount, with extra illumination from the muted old movies projected onto the wall. There’s a jazz band sometimes, playing the music at the perfect level to have a conversation and simultaneously bounce to the beat. Just like the yucca fries, their dishes are simple ingredients put together in the most delicious way possible. Sandwiches with plantains and avocado, black bean soup, chorizo and potato empanadas, roasted pork in mojo sauce. When you walk in, it looks like a place a brokeass can’t afford, but the most expensive entree is $13.
