We have officially made it to my favorite season and my favorite month of the year!! October always keeps it fun (even when it’s spooky) and Halloween events are popping up all over the place! Here’s what I’m most excited about for the week of 10/3…

Trumer Oktoberfest

The de Young Open 2023

Building on the tremendous success of the inaugural The de Young Open in 2020, the second triennial of this juried community art exhibition will feature submissions by artists from the nine Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. Artworks will be hung “salon style,” installed nearly edge to edge and floor to ceiling, maximizing the number of works displayed. Designed to celebrate and support our local arts communities, this exhibition allows artists to offer their works for sale and retain the proceeds. As in 2020, we will also acquire a selection of exhibition artworks for our permanent collection.

Jenny Yang

Jenny Yang is a former labor organizer turned stand up comedian, host, writer and actor. In 2020 she was selected as one of Variety’s “10 Comics To Watch” and Vulture’s “Comedians You Should Know.” Jenny recently wrapped as a co-producer / writer for HBO Max’s “Gordita Chronicles” and previously for Fox’s “Last Man Standing” and E!’s late-night talk show “Busy Tonight” with Busy Philipps. Taiwan-born and Southern California-raised, Jenny was honored by President Obama as a “White House Champion of Change” for her leadership in “Asian American and Pacific Islander Art and Storytelling” in 2016.

The Moth StorySLAM – ADULTING

Moth shows are renowned for the great range of human experience they showcase. Each show starts with a theme, and the storytellers explore it, often in unexpected ways. Since each story is true and every voice authentic, the shows dance between documentary and theater, creating a unique, intimate, and often enlightening experience for the audience. Since its launch in 1997, The Moth has presented thousands of stories told live and without notes.

Luna Luna & Michael Seyer

Unlike other long-in-the-tooth festivals who are trapped to merely copying programming from each other, Cinelounge Film Fest aims to truly celebrate local, emerging talent. One third of the new films screening at Cinelounge Fest are from Marin and Bay Area local filmmakers.

Rainbow Girls
10/8 | The Chapel | 777 Valencia St, SF | 8 pm | $25

Rainbow Girls formed in the bottom of a radioactive crater. The first two colors to explode grinning from the mud were Red and Yellow, who soon realized that in order to fulfill their destiny, they needed to find the rest of the colors and join together to create an Electric All-Lady Stomp-Folk Grand Band. Green was discovered practicing voodoo in a barn in Carpinteria, while Violet was drawn to the harmonious, soul lifting shrieks of a particularly festive Monday night ritual known as BEAN NIGHT. The four immediately took off on a gust of wind to Joshua Tree and Big Bear Mountain, and traveled through Europe by the skin of their teeth, couchsurfing, playing music on the streets, staying in art squats and getting deported from London. When they returned, bursting with rock but lacking a drummer, Blue, carrying an entire drum kit around her body like a huge metal cloak, trampolined forth from inside a stand at the Farmers Market and Rainbow Girls was formed.

Panteón Rococó

Eight Mexican musicians yearning to take our music anywhere in the world since 1995. Seven times participants of the Festival “Vive Latino” plus diverse tours to world that include cities in the United States and Europe, have allowed them to spread the message of peace, dance and resistance.

Blue Hawaii

Riding off the stellar reception of “I Felt Love” and its rave remix, Blue Hawaii are rolling out 2023’s “Feeling Celebrated”.
