The Remedy for Your Sunday Morning Palsy
When it comes to Sunday morning coming down, the city’s homo denizens pretty much have a routine worked out, whether it be brunch, salsa, or the beer bust. What happens after those wrap up has always been a little problematic if you aren’t completely shattered or haven’t already followed someone home.
Enter the Honey Soundsystem at the Paradise Lounge. It’s already been around for a while now, but has provided much needed relief in the dance arena from the stale options one has on a Sunday night. To sweeten, um, the pot, there is no cover charge so you can sweat it out without having to pay some ridiculous fee. Music wise, I’m no savant, so its hard to put the varying subtleties of its collective of deejays (Pee Play, Kenvulsion, Jason Kendig, Robot Hustle and Josh Cheon with local and visiting guest stars) in a box, but better, perhaps, to compare it to its namesake – sweet but not cloying with some underlying flavours here and there.
Drink prices aren’t exactly bargain ($6 for well, $4 for Bud) but they’re strong and being with in stumbling distance of The Eagle can be a dangerous prospect if you aren’t careful.
Setting wise, the new look of the Paradise can best described as a backdrop inspired by Brett Easton Ellis. It’s like you fell through a rabbit hole onto the Strip circa 1986- hey, isn’t that Jamie Gertz hoovering the plexiglass?
Check out the their website for special events, upcoming combos with artists or special guests, such as recent RuPaul debutante, Tammie Brown.
