Broke-Ass of the Week – Writer & Blogger Tim Anderson
Every week we feature a different person from the community shedding a little light on their life of brokeitude. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something about the human spirit'probably not.
Wanna be a Broke-Ass of the Week? Holler at us here and we’ll send you the questionnaire.
I’m currently in Barcelona, so as you can imagine, I don’t really wanna write long introductions. So I’m just gonna paste Tim’s answer to my question of “Is there anything you want me to mention in the introduction”:
The main thing I’d like mentioned is the book: Tune in Tokyo: The Gaijin Diaries. It would be great to have a link to the book website and also to my blogs. Oh, and one other thing it would be great to mention is the short film I put together (about 20 minutes) to promote the book, which is viewable on the youtube. Here are all those links:
So without further ado, here is Tim Anderson’s Broke-Ass of the Week Interview:
Name: Tim Anderson
Age: 37
Occupation: Editor, writer, blogger, celebrity sex-tape authenticator
What neighborhood do you live in?: Greenpoint, Brooklyn
What are you listening to these days?: I’m totally obsessed with my two recent purchases, Dum Dum Girls’ 'œI Will Be' and Best Coast’s 'œCrazy For You'. Both are full of wonderful summertime jams. I haven’t listened to anything else in a week except for my boyfriend telling me to turn the shit down.
Best money saving tip: Don’t ever spend money on plastic containers. Just keep and reuse the ones you got for free with the wonton soup.
What do you refuse to spend money on?: Sex, unless my boyfriend really needs the money. Also ravioli. One should never order ravioli in a restaurant. You never get enough and you’re still hungry and then you have to go to another cheaper restaurant to get full and that means you don’t have any money left over for rice pudding at that place on Spring Street.
Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: my viola (still not totally paid for)
How’d that feel?: I was numb from the guilt.
Favorite cheap eat: Carmine’s Pizzeria on Graham Ave., in Brooklyn. Or the taco cart on Bedford Ave.
Favorite dive bar: The Levee on Berry in Williamsburg for their wonderful Frito pie.
Best deal you’ve ever gotten: Hmmm. Well 'œfree' is usually a good deal'”I have a friend who works at Kraft as a food scientist and she often gives me her latest test projects. I’ve gotten cookies, yummy peanut snacks, and Wheat Thins experiments. Don’t ever ask her about her Wheat Thins experiments, though, because it’s a really boring story. (Hi Kelly!)
Favorite free thing to do: Ride my bike around New York trying not to get doored. Also riding my bike to the beach. Some friends and I rode out to Fort Tilden a few weeks ago. The water was freezing, which was obviously awesome.
If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: Anderson Cooper. No, James Franco. Eh, one or the other.
Despite not having money, do you still love your life?: Yes! I’ve just published my first book (Tune in Tokyo: The Gaijin Diaries, ahem) and even though I self-published and have no publicity/marketing budget, I’m still giddy about having it out and available on the webnet.
Do you own my book?: You have a book too?!
Best hangover cure: Strawberry Pop tarts
Are you a hipster?: No, I don’t meet the weight requirement.
