The Nerds Come Out Tonight
Nerd-o-rama-ding-dong…
What is it that makes nerds so goddamn cool these days? I feel like everywhere I go I’m surrounded by high-wasted pants, suspenders and (of course) those non-prescription, Clark Kent glasses. I swear I saw a guy dressed just like Steve Urkel last weekend – and girls were flocking to him! A couple of years ago, my friend even threw a “Nerdy Thirty” birthday party. Looking back at the pictures, it could easily qualify as a “Hipster Party” today. Basically, what I’m trying to say is this: nerds are hip – so just get over it, and hang out with them already.
Nerd Nite SF #10: Visualization of Science, Undersea Internet, & the Art of Videogames at the Rickshaw Stop hosts an evening of presentations (hopefully Power Point) and drinking (definitely alcohol). Take a look behind the scenes of the Morrison Planetarium with Jon Britton, the man behind the largest all-digital dome in the world. Listen to Chris Woodfield from Yahoo! talk about how the Internet actually works across the globe. Stroll through a “Louvre-like” exhibition of awesome videogames with Alex Handy, internationally published technology journalist. I’m hoping the whole place will break out into the African Anteater Dance when DJ Alpha Bravo starts spinning. Don’t forget your pocket protector and your calculator…
Nerd Nite Rickshaw Stop 155 Fell St. at Market St. [Civic Center] Wednesday, March 16th, 7:30 p.m – 11:00 p.m. Cost: $8
