Don’t Underestimate the Taco Shop @ Underdog’s
Being from San Diego, I’ve had a hard time finding really good fish tacos in the city. I just found what I’ve been looking for yesterday at the Taco Shop @ Underdog’s in the Sunset. This is the place for fresh, So-Cal inspired Mexican food. Chef Nick Fasanella knows what’s up with his choice of local veggies, slow-cooked and marinated meats and beer battered Mahi Mahi. They make their own salsa fresca, as well as a red and a green hot sauce that will make you sweat! Try a “Nick’s Way” taco ($5.50), which means it’s wrapped in a hard shell and then again in a soft tortilla. How many times have you taken a bite out of a crunchy taco, only to have the whole thing fall apart immediately? Nick’s solution with the double-wrapped tortillas keeps it all in place and holds on to that special crunch…
The setting is basically a sports bar, with great food and hand-made Margaritas. There are 10 plasma screens to watch the Giants games on and a whole bunch of tequilas in the bar. The servers are friendly and the crowd is mellow. This place really sticks out in a neighborhood that’s otherwise saturated in Asian Cuisine. Stop by and check out these incredible deals:
