Today and Tomorrow: Get Your Art On for FREE

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Do you like art? No? Well, uh, wanna spend a weekend in the sun after toiling away at your job all week? Yeah, I thought so.

Today and tomorrow in Oakland, the Pacific Fine Arts Festival will invade Montclair Village and display the works of artists from all across the Western US. For FREE. It’s a juried event, which means that the art will probably be a cut above. And there will also be stuff for sale, so if you have a few nickels to rub together — and your home is lacking some character — perhaps you’ll consider a purchase.

With more than 90 artists in attendance, there will be something for everyone: paintings, jewelry, glass art, and sculptures crafted from natural stone from a self-proclaimed stonemason (What’s the year again? 600 BC?). And if all that culture makes you hungry, there will be food vendors present to squelch your stomach’s growls. The Fest lasts for two days, so if you need to kill some time (or just like to play the role of the critic), go check it out.

Mia Di Pasquale - Scroungy Scribbler

Mia is a nice Italian girl from an exotic Italian colony called New Jersey.  She studied English Literature and Screenwriting at Drexel University in Philadelphia and has no intention of ever being a teacher.  Instead, she produces low-budget films with her crew/friends, one of which actually won a contest hosted by AMC and judged by Mr. Robert (Rob) Zombie.  She currently lives and loves in beautiful Oakland, California, which, she maintains, is just as great as and even sunnier than San Francisco.
