DIY: Cocktail Umbrellas
Broke-asses and cocktails go together like Ben & Jerry, peanut butter and chocolate, Kei$ha and auto-tune…. We all know if we’re gonna drop serious coin, it’s going to be on something alcoholic with a name like the Tin Lizzy or the Soma Sour. In my opinion, the best cocktails come with two things: more liquor than mixer and cocktail umbrellas. I like to use the umbrellas as hair accessories but they’re actually good for a slew of stuff. So, start stashing those little parasols in your purse and pockets ‘cause those little umbrellas are super useful.
From simple ideas like tying them to presents to liven up wrapping paper, to topping cupcakes, umbrellas are easy to stick around for some added color. They can also be worked into bigger projects like centerpieces and lamps.
It’s easy enough – to make the centerpiece, just grab a Styrofoam ball and stick it onto a post. Wrap some ribbon around the post, and stick the umbrellas into the Styrofoam ball then find a base. The lamp is pretty much the same process, only using a plastic ball instead of Styrofoam and you’ll need to cut out an opening for the light bulb. You might also want to poke holes with something sharp like a safety pin before trying to push your umbrellas through – those little wooden toothpicks won’t take a helluva lot of pressure.
Now grab some friends and head towards Trad’r Sam’s. It’s time for some scorpion bowls. With extra umbrellas.
