Pride NightLife Tonight!
Its mid-June, folks, which in San Francisco means we are heading into the home-run stretch of Pride month. As Market street gets all polychromatic and workers frantically try to blast all the dried “character” away, all across town festivals, booze- busts, lecturers and shindigs are popping up like so many nosegays.
To help you along we’ll be highlighting all the places to go and the cheapest ways to get there. Time to get out y’all!
Everyone loves NightLife at the California Academy of Sciences, but you have to admit it gets a bit old after you’ve already been a couple of times. The DJs become a mere background to a drunken stroll through the same exhibits. Pushing the button in the electric eel tank can only do it for you so many times. Not to fear, my friends. The museum gets hit with a rainbow of surprises that will surely brighten up the coral reef and make the rainforest even steamier when Pride takes over NightLife tonight!
Even the animals will get a kick out of Heklina of Trannyshack hosting a drag performance and “transpecies” costume contest in the Piazza. Carol Queen & Dr. Robert Lawrence, co-founders of the Center for Sex and Culture, will give a talk titled “Seven Billion Sexual Orientations”about supporting sexual individuality and diversity.
Get in line for the Planetarium early to check out “Stargayzing” at 6:30—a glimpse into the constellations and their meanings. Stay to catch two showings of Earthquake. Don’t miss the scoop on sex-changing fish and other crazy animals from a marine biologist, as well as other speakers to follow.
The infamous Juanita MORE! will be bumping some beats in the east pavillion, along with DJ Pink Lightning and DJ Rapid Fire of Stay Gold. Hard French DJs Carnita & Brown Amy will also be making an appearance in the coral reef so you can get down under the sea. This is definitely the NightLife of the year you don’t want to miss.
