The Best Drunk Food By City
As you stumble out of the front door of your favorite bar, you feel it: a rumble in your stomach that cannot be denied. And, at 2 in the morning, you know that you can’t hit up just any restaurant to sate your stomach. There’s only one solution to your alcohol-induced state of hunger, and that’s drunk food.
In many cases, you’ll be lucky: where there are revelers, there are drunk food spots that stay open late and serve up the greasy, carb-loaded fare that we think will soak up all of the booze hanging around in our bellies. Even if the latter doesn’t happen, you will be indulging in the type of meal that you probably wouldn’t eat in the light of day, so you should probably live it up. That’s why we’ve put together our own list list of some of the best drunk food spots in the country. Find your city and live it up accordingly!
Chicago Drunk Food
Giordano’s
Various locations throughout Florida, Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota!
One of the more classic drunk foods, pizza has it all: carbs, tomato sauce, and a heaping helping of cheese. In comparison to other cities’ pizza though, Chicago pizza has it all and then some because its buttery deep-dish crust can hold even more cheese, sauce and toppings. In other words, you get more bang for your drunk-food buck. Let’s not forget to mention just how delicious deep-dish pizza is, too. Yum.
Denver Drunk Food
Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs
2148 Larimer Street
It only takes one deep breath of the crisp air in mile-high Denver to realize that you’re in the outdoors. And, when you’re living a rugged mountain lifestyle, you can’t just eat any old hot dog. At Biker Jim’s, you’ll find a slew of dogs that seem to second that notion: elk jalapeño cheddar, wild boar, duck cilantro, rattlesnake & pheasant, to name a few. You can grab one until 3 a.m., too, which means you can maintain your mountain style even with a buzz on.
Los Angeles Drunk Food
Du-Par’s Restaurant & Bakery
6333 W. 3rd Street
Whether you plan on eating right when you get out of the bar at 2 a.m. or not until you wake up the next morning, there are great hangover foods specifically in the breakfast category as well! Not all drunk food has to be savory. In fact, one forkful of the famous pancakes at Du-Par’s will likely have you changing your tune about the merits of salty, greasy drunk food. The 24-hour restaurant pairs its pancakes with eggs, sausage or bacon on the side if you need a bit of salt with your sweet. No matter what you pair your pancakes with, you’re laying down a nice, fluffy base to soak up all that you drank.
New Orleans Drunk Food
F&M Patio Bar
4841 Tchoupitoulas Street
It’s no surprise that New Orleans would make a showing on this list, considering just how much drinking goes down in this southern city. At F&M Patio Bar, you can get your fix of two New Orleans flavors: booze and alligator meat. The alligator quesadilla hides spicy reptilian sausage amid a gooey coating of cheese. For less adventurous palettes, reach for the cheese-slathered fries to do the trick.
Philadelphia Drunk Food
U Got Munchies
2012 N. Broad Street
Philadelphians can argue all they want about which cheesesteak is the best… we’ll be over here eating our fried Oreos and buffalo chicken cheese fries at U Got Munchies. This late-night eatery is a favorite amongst Temple co-eds, which shows that it’s the perfect cap to a drunken night on the town. U Got Munchies also has a lengthy burger menu that comes in both beef and black bean varieties if you’re into that sort of thing. They also deliver, which is great news for those of us who are too drunk to sleep, but too lazy to dine in.
San Francisco Drunk Food
Bacon Wrapped Street Hot Dogs
Most Sidewalks in Mission District
When the smell of bacon hits drunk nostrils, few can resist the call. After midnight, on sidewalks primarily in the SOMA, Castro & Mission Districts, the mission dogs come out to sizzle. There are few things in this world less organic, less ‘fair trade’, or less healthy than a bacon wrapped street hot dog with ‘everything’ on it. But at 130am…who gives a f**k? Am I right?
The mission hot dog vendors are a wonderful SF tradition. The lines are short, the grease is long, and they’ll put jalapenos and grilled onions or ketchup, mayonnaise, or mustard, with or without bacon, and no matter what it’s just $5. Brilliant, convenient, simplicity.
Clearly, this list isn’t a be-all, end-all of drunk food: it only covers six cities and their best, most crave-worthy creations. It’s up to you to add to what we’ve started by finding the best dishes in your city and sharing them with everyone around you. So get out there, be drunk and eat on. AND drop your favorite drunk eating spot in the comments!
