I Volunteered with the SF-Marin Food Bank and it was Fantastic!
This article was made possible by the fine folks at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank and Onfleet. Wanna have your company’s story told? Holler at Alex@BrokeAssStuart.com
I spent last Wednesday delivering food for the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank. There are thousands of San Franciscans who can’t leave their homes due to COVID, so the Food Bank is now delivering tens of thousands of bags full of groceries to those in need.
Onfleet powers millions of deliveries every month for some of the most innovative companies in the world and they’ve generously donated their technology so that volunteers like myself can seamlessly have the best route for delivering food.
Here I am going ‘on-duty’ using their handy app.
My fiancé Kayla volunteered to drive while I popped out and dropped off the food. Yay! Look at our cute matching masks!
The first stop was the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank where scores of people volunteer each day to pack groceries. Look how many people are there and how much food is being packed!
Here’s the inside of the food bank. It looks like a way more benevolent Costco.
The check-in process was easy-peasy. Someone was there to walk us through the program and answer any questions we had about Onfleet.
After that, we loaded up the van with a dozen of these huge bags of groceries.
And then we were off on our adventure!
Onfleet put together the route for us, making deliveries as easy as possible.
Here we are at our first stop.
After ringing the doorbell each time I waited to get confirmation that someone was coming to the door. Then I put the food down and step 6 feet back to social distance.
Here I am making another run.
How adorable are these flowers?
We drove around and delivered a dozen bags to people in need throughout SoMa and the Tenderloin.
Using Onfleet, we ticked off each task until we were done. The app was incredibly helpful for our deliveries.
This was such a wonderful experience and I’m so glad we got to do it! The food bank is always looking for more volunteers so if you’re interested in helping out you can learn more right here. And if you’ve got a company that might need the services the Onfleet provides, you can check them out right here. They are often willing to help out organizations doing charitable work.
That’s all for now. I hope you enjoyed tagging along on our adventure as much as we enjoyed experiencing it!
