Broke-Ass of the Week

Broke-Ass of the Week – Jonathan Gregorio from Funsherpa

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Every week we feature a different person from the community shedding a little light on their life of brokeitude.  Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something about the human spirit'probably not.

Wanna be a Broke-Ass of the Week?  Holler at us here and we’ll send you the questionnaire.

Jonathan is the dude over at the NYC section of the site funsherpa.com.  He recently interviewed me over at their blog and today he’s (obviously) our Broke-Ass of the Week.  Funsherpa is a cool site because what they do is broker discounts for all kinds of interesting activities ranging from yoga to zip lining to a flight in space (that one unfortunately cost $200,000).  What’s also great about the site is that you can buy activities for other people and send them as a gift, meaning that if you wanted to buy me a massage you totally could…I’m just saying…

Read below to see what Jonathan has to say about being a broke-ass, and try not to hold the fact that he lives in Murray Hill against him:

Name: Jonathan Gregorio

Age: 28

Occupation: I head up the New York group at funsherpa.com, a site where one can find cool experience gifts and fun things to do in New York City.

What neighborhood do you live in?: Murray Hill

What are you listening to these days?: Classic rock, 90’s alternative, Peter Bjorn and John, LCD Sound System, Hot Chip, and the annoying Vuvuzelas from the World Cup (ed. note – this interveiw was during world cup)

Best money saving tip: Buy used stuff from Craigslist'80% of my apartment consists of things taken from craigslist. When you’re sick of it, sell it on Craigslist for the same price.

What do you refuse to spend money on?: Cover charges at bars and coat checks

Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: A used 94 Honda Civic from craigslist.

How’d that feel?: Great! It was my college beater car and used it for 2 years. Was able to sell it when I moved to NYC for only 500 bucks less than what I bought it for.

Favorite cheap eat: The latin food vendors in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Favorite dive bar: Keybar, 2 for 1 drinks everyday till 10pm!

Best deal you’ve ever gotten: 20 cent tacos at San Loco during their 20th anniversary special.

Favorite free thing to do: Biking around the city and zipping past the best of the Manhattan landscape.

If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: A trip to space on Richard Branson’s space shuttle.

Despite not having money, do you still love your life?: Yes. I always remember Biggie’s words of wisdom, ‘Mo Money Mo Problems’. I think not having much money makes your life definitely more simple, relaxed and real.

Do you own my book?: Nope, but I am picking one up from the public library!

Best hangover cure: Coconut water works wonders!

Are you a hipster?: Nope. Answering that I live in Murray Hill totally throws out that question =)
