Bright Strings and Nimble Fingers

I know that I’m prone to over exaggerate things.  I often just get really excited about something and suddenly it goes from being a cool little happening to “Holy shit!  You have to go to this!  It’s gonna be the best thing ever!”  I know this about myself and I’ve tried to curb it.  That way when something truly amazing happens, you people will believe me.  Tonight is one of those cases (I mean the actually amazing, not the over excited amazing).

Let me start of with saying that I know $10 tickets isn’t super broke-ass, but some things are worth paying for.  Tonight at Cafe Du Nord, Judgement Day, Kelli Rudick, and Matthew Schoening are playing.  It’s set to be a night of neo-classical/indie rock fusion if that makes any sense.  Basically, the whole show is awesome instrumental music.  Judgement Day is a cello, violin and drums and they play electrified string metal music. The violinist, Anton Patzner, plays in Bright Eyes and Mates of State.

Kelli Rudick is just as amazing. She plays her guitar like a percussion instrument; she beats that thing like it owes her money!  She also plays obscure instruments like the nail violin and performs solo, using a loop station, so she can create entire songs by herself. You have to see her to believe what she’s doing.

As for Matthew Schoening, I really don’t know much about him, be he sounds pretty awesome himself.

I’m currently in NY for a week doing promo stuff for my NY book, but if I was in SF, there is no way I would miss this show.  If you go, let me know how much you enjoyed it.
