Free food!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I bet you get a little tired of my random rants  and wanna know about where to get some free food right?  I mean that’s one of the reason you come here isn’t it?  Ok well I’ve got something for my folks in both SF and NY. San Francisco:

Maya: 303 2nd St @ Folsom (SOMA)

Maya’s happy hour is fucking sweet!  You sit down and order a drink (like a delicious $5 margarita) and then they bring out this absolutely amazing two-tiered food platter filled with all kinds of finger foods and a bean dip.  I mean this shit is high grade!  I’ve spent a lot of time (I’m beginning to think too much time) searching out free food at happy hours, and out of all of them Maya’s is one of the best tasting, and easily the best displayed.  The happy hour runs from 5-7pm Mon-Fri and if tequila is your thing Maya has a bazillion different ones you can try.

Brazen Head: 228 Atlantic Ave. @ Court St. (Cobble Hill, Brooklyn)

Founded in Dublin in 1198, the Brazen Head is the oldest pub in all of Ireland.  The Brooklyn bar of the same name is not nearly as old but what it lacks in age, it makes up for in free food.  On Mondays start your week with free wings; on Wednesday tackle the mid-week blues with free cheese and work off your Sunday hangover with free bagels.   And all that grub can be washed down with $2 PBR.

Unfortunately my two month old camera decided it didn’t like me, and stopped working (it’s in the shop now) so I don’t have any photos for you of these spots.  Instead I’ll show you the back of a box of Kosher Salt….it has a shrimp recipe on it.  I guess the morons didn’t realize that Kosher people can’t eat shrimp…

Not Kosher!
