The night of the election, I didn’t cry. I was in shock. But I knew that I had to buck-the-fuck up. As the director of a non-profit that helps local artists living and working in San Francisco, I had to be strong for my staff and my community who are facing the challenges of this divisive time.
Within days of the election, the Women’s March was taking shape. A week later I bought my ticket to DC. A week after that we formed a group of strong, bold women called the Pussy Posse. A few weeks later, I learned about the Pussy Hat project, and knew that globally, we women had found a way to unite forces.
We women, we can take a lot. You can knock us down and we’ll get back up. But when you start to pick on our mothers, and our sisters and brothers, that’s when we get pissed. And we come out in full force.
Upon arrival in DC, I wore my Pussy Hat around town, opening several conversations with strangers and making new friends, all coming here to make a statement together in the global Pussy Posse.
The day of the march, it was incredible to feel the positive, forceful energy with hundreds of thousands of people. Some streets were impassable, thick with humanity. Chants and cheers, amazing signs and happy tears. Madonna saying, “Fuck you” to the new president and to patriarchy on national television.
And now is the time to do it again, and again. We will not be silent nor complicit in the destruction of all we have built for human decency. The Pussy Posse has united, hear us roar!”
