The LES’s Tenement Museum has a new walking tour called “Next Steps,†focusing on the trends that shaped the Lower East Side from 1935 to the present, and this Wednesday at 2:30pm, the tour is FREE! The tour takes visitors above Delancey Street, with stops along the way at bodegas, parks, settlement houses, and churches. Discuss gentrification and neighborhood change, immigration trends post-1966, how buildings have been changed and reused, and how urban renewal affected the Lower East Side in ways good and bad. Tour size is limited to 25 people, so get your tickets on Wednesday from 10am on at the Visitor Center. No more than 2 tickets per person.

Then jaunt on over to the illustrated lecture called “Edgar Allan Poe at Fordham.†The famous American writer spent his final years (1846 -1849) in a simple frame cottage in NY’s very own Bronx. There, Poe wrote such works as “The Bells,†“Eureka,†“Annabel Lee,†and “The Cask of Amontillado.†Reception until 8:00 PM in the Poe Room at NYU’s Law School.
