I feel like a bit of an asshole for saying this, but I can go my entire life without seeing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in person. Standing on a sidewalk with swarms of tourists in the cold cuts into my time for gluttony, napping, super family fun time and yelling while playing board games. (I’m also scared on Manhattan parades after I went to the Village on Halloween and a stranger reached up my skirt).
Despite my anti-parade stance, I’m totally stoked to go watch the Thanksgiving parade balloons get inflated this afternoon. So if you want to see Kermit the Frog, Hello Kitty, Buzz Lightyear, Ronald McDonald and company change from giant Slip ‘n’ Slides to floating beings the size of Godzilla and King Kong, get your ass to the Upper West Side today. And unlike the parade, the balloons are staying put. So you don’t have to chase them down if you get there late.
