The Best Fish Sandwich in the Wharf

There is actually a place in Fisherman’s Wharf that will not leave you broke and still hungry for more. Salty’s Famous Fishwich at Pier 43 1/2 serves the best fish sandwich in town for just $5. It is humongous, delicious and the price can’t be beat. Forget all the other tourist traps in the Wharf and satisfy your hunger at Salty’s.

The Famous Fishwich consists of a fried fillet of Cod served on a sesame bun and topped with heaps of their amazingly crunchy coleslaw. The slaw is made to perfection without too much mayo to get it all soggy. Salty’s also has some great garlic fries (but watch out – they might not be the best idea if you are on a date), and they also serve other typical dishes like clam chowder in a bread bowl. But believe me, the Fishwich is where it’s at!

Bring some friends down on a sunny day and chill out on the outdoor picnic tables with some beers, watching the tourists stroll by. Salty’s is totally casual and you order at the counter. It’s just past the main restaurant row – so you won’t be overwhelmed with crowds – nor high prices.

Heidi Smith - The Ultimate Scavenger

Originally from San Diego, Heidi migrated north to study journalism at SFSU and interned for the SF Bay Guardian writing music stuff. She later embarked on a study-abroad program in both Denmark and Holland, and basically never came home. For six long years, she froze her ass off in Oslo, Norway, pretending to be a viking princess, trying to figure out how to survive in the most expensive city in the world. The other two years were spent frolicking on the beach in Spain - sipping on sangria in between being tossed around Europe working as a stressed-out journalist. Heidi currently works at for a non-profit cultural exchange program, helping others experience life from a different perspective. She is thrilled to be back in SF, magnetizing the obscure, and scavenging the city for fun, free things to do.
