BA of the Week – Katarina Hybenova, Editor of Bushwick Daily

Every week we feature a different person from the community shedding a little light on their life of brokeitude.  Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something about the human spirit…probably not.

Wanna be a Broke-Ass of the Week?  Holler at us here and we’ll send you the questionnaire.

This week’s featured broke-ass is Katarina Hybenova, editor of the great blog Bushwick Daily. You would expect someone who reps Bushwick to have some good broke-ass tips and Katarina certainly does. My favorite is the one about being a blogger. It’s true! You do get all kinds of amazing perks. You have no idea what kind of strange stuff I’ve been offered because of being one. I’ve been offered everything from booze to haircuts, to being asked out on dates. Anyways read below and see why Katarina jokingly calls herself “Queen of the Hipsters”

Name: Katarina Hybenova

Age: 29

Occupation: Founder and Editor of Bushwick Daily, a photo-inspired blog about the best neighborhood in Brooklyn and world, whoa!

What neighborhood do you live in?: I recently moved a couple of blocks up and I found myself in Ridgewood, Queens, a neighboring neighborhood to Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Best money saving tip: Be a blogger! People will buy you drinks, feed you and give you free stuff.

What do you refuse to spend money on?: I refuse to pay astronomic rent for shitty Bushwick apartments with mice and landlords who don’t give a crap.

Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: It’s really weird but all my most expensive things were around $1,000. My laptop, my camera, lenses, flight tickets to places…

How’d that feel?: Acquiring of all those things felt really good. I wish I could experience that feeling more often.

Favorite cheap eat: Home-made kale salad with avocado and lemon juice. The cost to make it is about $3.

Favorite dive bar: Lone Wolf at Broadway in Bushwick.

Best deal you’ve ever gotten: You know, I don’t get too many deals, only straight free things…I don’t know why is that.

Favorite free thing to do: Ehm, to have sex with my boyfriend *I’m blushing but it’s true*

If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: I would go on a long vacation. The longest I’ve done was 3 weeks because I have always had a feeling there is some kind of a job that I have to return to. Not when I’m a millionaire! I’ll go for 2 months at least, probably to Morocco. I’ve been in Morocco already once, and it keeps coming back to me in my dreams – Marrakesh and the spice markets, Atlas Mountains, dunes…

Despite not having money, do you still love your life?: Hell yeah!!

Do you own my book?: I don’t but it’s on my Xmas wish list!

Best hangover cure: A chopped pickle mixed with heavy cream and cinnamon. No, I’m kidding. The best hangover cure I know but I always forget to apply is to drink at least 3 glasses of water before you go to sleep after a night of drinking. It makes everything much better. It’s only hard to think of it when you’re wasted.

Are you a hipster?: I run Bushwick Daily. I guess that makes me a queen of them.
