FREE Modelos (Beer, not Latina Models) at Billy Reid Pop-Up Shop Social
I think we should all take a moment to thank black market rogues and permit-less street vendors for the biz model now being used by pop-up shops. The difference is these stores are evading large financial commitments, whereas counterfeiters and shawarma slingers are ducking the armed arm of the law.
The idea is sweet. It is leveling the field and reducing the barriers for small time vendors to get their goods in front of consumers, but something bothers me about pop-up stores: they make me feel stupid, because my dumb literal imagination only thinks of pop-tarts and pop-up books when I hear one mentioned. But the proliferation of these Bedouin stores is more like an herpetic eruption. Thatโs fine, bring on the open sores, because with high turnover there are more opening socials.
Tonight, Billy Reid celebrates the opening of a 10-day pop-up shop called โOne Trip Passโ peddling โvintage High Desert findsโ; โvintage American menswearโ; and โworn-in boots, Western snap-up chambray shirts, faded tees, and military dudsโ.
The opening social goes from 6-9pm and there will be free Modelo Especial and local food for guests. It is at the Billy Reid store at 54 Bond Street, in the parlor portion of the store.
