ELFIN PROJECT

Feeling a little lonely this holiday season?  Or just stuck in NYC away from family… or stuck in town with family who you’d rather not see?  Visiting Neighbors is looking for a few good volunteers (aka elves) to deliver gifts to homebound, isolated, and lonely senior citizens during the month of December. You’ve still got a few more days to pitch in!  Brighten the season for an older person who may not get any other gifts or visits during this festive time of year.

Volunteers should be at least fifteen years of age. They require two letters of recommendation for those volunteers who are visiting and delivering gifts to seniors, and they’d also appreciate it if a volunteer could bring a roll of wrapping paper, tape and scissors.

Schedules are very flexible. Gifts can be picked up at the Visiting Neighbors office from 11a-7p weekdays and delivered on a weekday, weeknight, or weekend. Just call the office to let them know when you are coming!

CHRISTMAS DAY MEAL DELIVERY

So I’m not into evangelism, but doing something good for humanity in God’s name (regardless of your beliefs) can’t be a bad thing, right?  God’s Love We Deliver provides meals and nutritional counseling to men, women, and children living with life-altering illnesses. On December 25th, Christmas Day, volunteers will deliver, by car, meals and Blizzard Boxes to our clients in all five boroughs and parts of New Jersey.  Wanna do something nice on Christmas?  Call em up!

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
