Times Square Does King Tut
I recently watched an episode of “Antiques Roadshow” where an interesting object came up for appraisal. My husband declared it a “piece of crap that wasn’t worth anything.” I countered by claiming that it was, in fact, an ancient Egyptian canopic jar worth a lot of money. When the words 'œcanopic jar' then came out of the mouth of the expert, my husband was stunned. As it turns out, I was a bit of an Egyptologist as a child. I collected statues, papyrus paintings and even an at-home excavating kit. As it turns out, the jar on Antiques Roadshow was worth a lot of money if the gal would be able to sell it. The problem she will no doubt encounter is that it is illegal to sell ancient artifacts for which there is no legal documentation. So, as it turns out, my husband and I were both right in a way.
Being that I am obsessed with all things ancient Egypt, you can be sure that I will be checking out the 'œTutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs' exhibit coming to Times Square. The exhibition will hold artifacts in ten galleries that cover items found in and around the famous tomb, as well as items that represent the time period of King Tut’s contemporaries. The exhibit will also cover the discovery of the tomb itself.
It has been over 30 years since the exhibit has made it’s way to New York City, so be sure to check it out and revel in the fact that you are still as un-cool as you were in fifth grade.
