Once In A Lifetime – Survivors of The Atomic Bombs
Before recently, I was not aware that there are living survivors of the atomic bombs attacks during World War II. It wasn’t until the theatre company of which I am a part was asked to do a show using true stories from the survivors that I found out about these amazing people. The survivors, or 'œHibakusha,' as they are called in Japan, are a group of elderly men and women who travel to tell their personal stories of endurance in order to promote peace. They continue to work for nuclear disarmament by helping people understand the true reality of nuclear weapons through their testimony.
Monday, May 3rd The Big Apple Playback Theatre Company has the unique honor of using the stories of, and performing with the Hibakusha.
Big Apple Playback Theatre is a professional physical theatre company that brings true stories told by the audience to life on the spot using movement, music, metaphor, text, and poetry. Playback Theatre is an expression of art and a vehicle for change providing ample opportunity for laughter, reflection, connection, empathy and dialogue.
In this unique performance, Big Apple will play back stories told by the Hibakusha. Please join us for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear the first person accounts from the people who lived through the atomic bombs and have now dedicated their lives to achieving peace.
