Learn to Swing Dance for FREE in Union Square!

Hope she's wearing knickers...

In general, I’m not a huge fan of dancing — naturally, I feel extremely uncomfortable when confronted with my complete lack of rhythm — but I’ll tell you what I DO like:  swing dancing.  I think it’s as much the idea as the actual act:  the music, the fashion, the bright red lips and slick, polished wingtips.

Tonight in Union Square, novices and experts alike are invited to cut a rug for FREE at 6pm, with a beginner dancing lesson occurring from 6:30pm – 7pm.  I’ve seen some of these Lindy Hoppers in Golden Gate Park, and it definitely looks intimidating at first.  But then I see that awkward, bro-y guy in the corner who most likely got tricked into coming by his girlfriend and I feel okay about myself again.  If you’re too shy to participate, no worries — it’s still an awesome thing to watch.  And if you can get the hang of it, the dancing will probably be pretty fun to take part in as well.  Especially if, like me, you’re planning to down a couple Four Lokos before you head out.

Christy Jovanelly - Cheapskate Commentator

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
