DIY: An Ode to the All-Star

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I was standing in line for a burrito today behind a group of ladies, all wearing spectacular summer shoes: hooved, heeled leather creations that encompassed the ankles, high-heeled strappy sandals that laced up the calves, cute 50’s style memorabilia heels…I looked at my feet and gave a silent prayer to my beat-up, brick-red Chuck Taylor All-Stars. The world’s most perfect shoe. The rock star shoe. Simple. Pure. Classic. Punk as fuck.

Everyone from Pete and Pete to Johnny Knoxville and Kurt Cobain has sported a pair of Chucks. And everyone has converted/painted/altered/spindled/folded/mutilated/etc. their pair – which makes sense, because well, art is made on canvas and Chuck’s are canvas. Who hasn’t spent time writing on or painting or renovating their Con’s? Here’s a shout-out to some clever Con-mod’s (with links to instructions, when available).

Painting/Drawing:

What are you, the drummer for Slipknot?

Knit Converse – alright, I’m more into crochet but these are pretty tight

This is what happens when you Google "fur converse"
