Porchlight Open Door Monday at Hemlock
Internetdudes and dudettes, have I got a cheap answer to some of your problems. We live in a crazy, mixed-up world and we could probably all use a healthy dose of ridiculous expensive therapy. But what if I told you for a mere five bucks you could spill your heart out for five minutes in front of a captive audience? Sounds cathartic, right? And what if I told you that if a random audience member decides you have the best story of the night, you get $50? Yes, Virginia, it’s true, you might even make money from this exciting venture. And when did your therapist ever give you money for an amazing sock-knocker-off story?
Beth Lisick and Arline Klatte, founders of Porchlight, a storytelling series, added the Open Door night about a year ago, in addition to their still running regular Porchlight night (which is worth the $15 if you can spare it sometime). Show up early to the Hemlock and sign up. Throw back a few cheap well shots and get ready to finally have people listen when you talk. Each night has its own theme and this Monday’s is “Creepy: Stories that Make Your Skin Crawl.” The story about your uncle and that time in the woods certainly would fall into that category. Or your mother making you squeeze the blackheads on her back. It’s finally time to let it all go.
