Cheap/Awesome Hostel at Point Reyes
While traveling during my semester abroad in college, I was totally amazed by and mildly obsessed with hostels. The cheap, Broke-Ass friendly lodgings were always awesome in my experience, and even horror stories of drunk strangers urinating on a friend’s luggage didn’t phase me.
Upon my return to the states, the harsh, hostel-lacking reality hit me hard the next time I had to book a hotel for some ungodly amount per night. Hostels here are few and far between, and because of their scarceness, those that do exist seem creepy and unreliable. I admit, I have no solid evidence of these shortcomings, but the magic was gone and I thought my days of hostel hopping were an ocean away.
On a recent day-trip adventure to Point Reyes (which rules btw), I learned that tucked into the unspoiled wilderness is an amazing and inexpensive, you guessed it, HOSTEL! I had heard legend of a similar setup in the Marin Headlands and had always meant to g-search it. Now, on a flyer in my hand and a website on my Internet lies the promise of a new era of U.S. hostels.
The facilities look clean, the clientele un-creepy, and the surroundings breathtaking. Rooms start at $22 per night, so if you too are hostel-obsessed, book now because I’m sure the place fills up fast. Happy hosteling!
