Get Your Ski Lodge On at Bacchus Kirk

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I find myself frequently overhearing passersby chatting about their most recent or coming trip to Tahoe.  As a broke-ass I can only dream of such a trip.  I don’t fret, though.  Why?  Bacchus Kirk!

There are a number of wallet-friendly bars in the Nob Hill area.  One in particular, Bacchus Kirk, offers cheap drinks and that ski lodge feel these local yuppies are actually enjoying every other weekend.

Bacchus is a long narrow bar complete with log-like walls, exposed wooden beams overhead, and dim red lighting.  Don’t forget about the fireplace!  You will find plenty of seating at the bar or around one of the several tables.  The crowd is usually pretty mellow.  In my experience, everyone appeared to be local, but from what I understand this place is frequented by tourists as well.  Near the rear of the bar you will find a lone pool table.  Being that it’s usually not too crowded, playing a game or two is quite easy.  There is also a jukebox on the wall nearest the pool table.  The selection isn’t terrible.

Bacchus is a great weekday/after work/happy hour (4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m.) type of joint.  My personal favorite drink special is the Tecate can and Juarez-like tequila shot for six bucks.  By the way, for all the smokers, there is a designated smoking room near the front.  It’s tiny, so be prepared to make friends.

With a reasonably friendly staff and decent drink specials, Bacchus Kirk is a great place to grab a drink or two with friends.  See you there!
